About the program

Namaskar to you all,

Hope you are well and looking forward to the holidays. We are looking forward to them too 🙂

Several people asked if we could have a retreat for the new year, something relaxed so that also the organizers can enjoy it.

Well, we are happy to invite you to such program. The main dates are from December 30 to January 2 however if you want you can arrive on the 29th and stay until January 3rd. In that case please help with the preparations or clean up. If you would like to stay longer and volunteer, please contact me. Remember to sign up for the program, it is very important.

As always, you will find the details of the cost on the registration form. We try to keep it as cheap as possible, so please consider helping to make Ananda Madhumaya better and better.

We will have a similar program to other retreats, with several kiirtan and meditation sessions per day and there will be room for other activities such as workshops, walks, sports, etc. However, it will be up to all of us to organize it. So, if you have ideas, please feel free to share them, you can give a workshop, lead a walk, organize a cultural evening, and so on. Let your imagination run wild. As the margiis in the US have their own winter retreats we can also join some of their classes on line.

For cooking and cleaning everyone will have to help by taking turns. We will make sure there is food, but the preparation will be organized on site. We will not allow Didi or anyone else to be full time in the kitchen. At the same time, if cooking is your way of relaxing, go ahead! If you want to coordinate or take charge of a meal, let us know. If not, we’ll make arrangements during the event.

To keep it relaxed the maximum number of participants is 20-25. If you are sure you want to come, don’t wait, register and make your deposit within 3 days. Overseeing the registration process takes a lot of time and energy, so I have automated much of it 🙂 This means that if you don’t make your deposit within three business days, your registration will be automatically suspended and you may lose your spot. If you have a particular situation, that doesn’t allow you to pay on time or anything else, just contact us so we’ll be aware and keep your registration.

The main house has been further improved. New beds, new linens, walls painted, all private fully renovated bathrooms, bed side tables with light etc. The rates here are a bit higher, both to help for the expenses we had as well as allowing those with less income to have lower rates in the dorm rooms. There is also solar hot water.

The weather is nice, cool (could be a bit chilly) during the night and early morning hours, but warms up quickly once the sun comes up.

The base cost will be $25 per day (arrival and departure day included), but as always there are discounts for early registration and for the economically disadvantaged. So the cost can be as low as $15 per day. There are tables below to explain it all. However if it’s too confusing, just fill in the form choose your options and the amount to be paid will be shown. In addition to PayPal, we can now also accept debit and credit card payments, there is a small extra charge for that.

If you really don’t want to cook or clean you can pay extra so we can hire or sponsor someone. Also if you don’t want to bring your own bedding, we can provide it for you for a small extra fee.

In His Love,
Dada Krpasundarananda

PS Most programs will be in Spanish. Though we will try to have translation we do not guarantee it.

COVID-19

As we all know, there is a Covid-19 virus infecting the population and many people have died. Whether the situation is better or worse than what the media informs us, we consider that being with many people may increase the possibility of getting infected or transmitting the virus to others.

Whether or not you will be affected depends on your immune system. Most people have no or few symptoms, but some people have severe symptoms and some even die from it. So please consider carefully your participation in this program, you are responsible for your health condition and situation and not only yours but also others.

For example, if you know you have Covid or have been in contact with people in the last 10 days who were infected that time please wait for a future event before attending. Also if you consider yourself in a risk group, live or work with people in a risk group, it will probably also be better to wait for a next event. Again you have a responsibility both for you own health and the collective welfare.

This program is open for everyone, vaccinated or not. If you like to wear a face-mask or not is also your choice, but for your information, most people who come decide not to wear it. Being vaccinated may protect you to a certain extend though at the same time it may not prevent others getting infected through you.

Washing hands, covering your mouth when sneezing (in your elbow), not hugging or kissing to greet each other (we have our beautiful "Namaskar" for that!) reduces the likelihood contracting or passing on many diseases.

Personally I think that if you are in good health, EAT HEALTHY and most importantly keep your mind in a POSITIVE flow, the risk is low and we are happy to welcome you all. Still the decision and responsibility is yours.

Dress and Behaviour

Though this is also a social function, it's main purpose is spiritual. To keep the sanctity of our space, keep our minds elevated and avoid to distract others (intentionally or not) we request you to dress modestly and try to behave in a dignified way. That includes refraining from overly loud talking, laughing.

To maintain the sanctity, women please cover your cleavage, shoulders, stomach, have a dress/pants that cover below the knees and avoid tight clothes. We also request not to use makeup or perfumes as they are not relevant for this program and even if worn with pure thoughts they may still be distracting for others.

For the men, please also cover your chest, shoulders and have pants that cover below the knees. Similarly also do not use after-shave or other perfumes. These smells give headache to those more sensitive and also disturb pranayama.

Remember this is our jagrtii (ashram/ temple) and though romance and courtship are a natural part of life, this is not the time and place to pursue those. Treat everyone like they are your own brother/sister.

Travel Information & Extras

Arrival & Departure

You are welcome to arrive a day earlier and or depart a day later if that works better with your flights. The suggested contribution per night, excluding food is $25. Beside the regular routine there are no programs. It would be great if you can see how to help with the preparations for the event or the clean up after.

By Flight:
Fly to Mexico City (MEX*) and take the regular Airport bus to Cuernavaca Casino. There is a bus terminal in the airport itself. From Cuernavaca there are many buses going to Xochicalco. Just ask which one goes via the autopista (toll road), the other route is very slow. Get down at the Oxxo (convienience store like 7/11) in Xochicalco and walk as per the instructions below. Below you can also find more details on how to get to us from Cuernavaca.
* The airport code to look for is MEX (Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juárez), there is a second (new) airport with the code NLU (Felipe Ángeles International Airport), unless you know what you are doing, do not fly to this one. There are hardly any transportation options beside taxis at 2-3 times the ordinary fare. You'd spend around US$75 to get to the bus station from where you can get a bus to our place.

By Car: (In case you have one or rent one)
Get on the autopista/toll road from Mexico City to Acapulco. About 25Km after Cuernavaca there is an exit to Alpuyeca, cross this town following the signs to Xochicalco (direction Miacatlan) Once in Xochicalco turn right at the Oxxo taking the main road towards the pyramids. After about 250m there is a health center on the left. Just after that turn left on the unpaved road and go down for 150 meters. You'll see our center and the welcome banner for the retreat. There is also a Ananda Marga sign on the main road.

Google maps will get you there by entering "Ananda Madhumaya Retreat Center, Xochicalco, Morelos" in the search bar.

By Bus from Taxquena CDMX:
1) There are hourly busses (Pullman de Morelos) that passes Xochicalco. When booking your ticket you may have to ask for El Rodeo or Miacatlan (Morelos) as they may not know Xochicalco, but the bus will stop at the Oxxo in Xochicalco if you ask the driver. It's 5 min walk from there and the instructions are above.

2) There are also many busses that stop at the caseta (toll place) at Alpuyeca. From the caseta you can take a taxi (if available) otherwise there are combies to Alpuyeca itself (takes 5 minutes) and there you can change to one to Xochicalco (takes 10 minutes) If they go to Xochicalco itself ask them to stop at the health center, if not get off at the Oxxo. You can also give us a call.

3) Take a bus to Cuernavaca (Casino or Central) and follow the instructions below.

By Bus from Cuernavaca:
From either near the terminal Casino or Central there are many buses that would stop in Xochicalco. Again you may have to ask for El Rodeo or Miacatlan. Xochicalco is just before El Rodeo and the bus can drop you at the Oxxo. Just make sure that the bus you take takes the autopista (Mibus and others) and not the libre (Lasser Bus) as that takes one hour more.

By Bus from other towns:
Best to get to either Cuernavaca or CDMX and then follow the instructions for those towns already mentioned above.

I trust one of those options will get you here easily. If really needed I can pick you up at the caseta, especially in case it's already late. Do let me know in advance your arrival time so we can plan and you don't have to wait too long.

Arriving early on the arrival day
Most of the time you will be welcome to arrive any time, we just can't guarantee that your room will be ready. The registration will normally open 2-3 hours before the program commences. See if you can help out with the preparations or you could go and explore Xochicalco 🙂

Departing late on the departure day
This will also not be a problem but you may have to leave your room so we can clean up. If you would join an other meal let us know. Naturally see if you can help.

Extra days:
If anyone wants to arrive earlier and or depart later than the official dates, you are most welcome. It will need to let us know in advance so we can make sure we can accommodate you and have enough food 🙂 Naturally a contribution for the extra days and meals will be much appreciated. We suggest a donation of $25 per day excluding food. Your help with any needed work would naturally be much appreciated but not expected.

Cancellation Policy

Because we have non-refundable expenses such as hotel reservations, transportation, food, etc., it is not possible for us to offer a full refund in case of cancellation.

If you cancel one week or more prior to the start of the retreat you will be fully refunded minus the value of the deposit. However, you can use this amount for future programs (valid for 1 year).

If you cancel less than one week, and more than one day, before the start of the withdrawal there is no refund. However, you can use the remaining balance (minus $30 cancellation fee) for future programs (1 year term).

If you do not show up or cancel on the first day of the retreat there will be no refund or right to use your remaining balance for other programs.
